Features of the School
Mechanical engineering is the driving force behind technological innovation.
In today’s sophisticated, constantly advancing industrial society, the importance of mechanical engineering as the driving force for technological innovation is ever-increasing. Studies at the School of Mechanical Engineering cover a wide range of subjects, from general mechanical engineering as a foundation for industrial technology, to mechanical technologies that are oriented towards the realization of sustainable development.
We are shifting towards mechanical engineering that is oriented towards the sustainable consumption of materials and energy.
The great challenge that we are faced with is the development of a society that balances sustainable economic growth with environmental protection. The School of Mechanical Engineering prepares students for a career as a mechanical engineer or as a researcher who will be successful in the wide-ranging field of industry, and who will fulfill the social responsibilities of a practitioner of manufacturing engineering while seeking harmony among technology, the environment, and society.
Introduction
Outline
Our students learn to design and produce creative machines, while aspiring to achieve a career as an engineer who will contribute to human welfare worldwide.
In the industrial society of our time, which is faced with ever-increasing demands for sophistication and accuracy, mechanical engineering has grown in importance to be the driving force of technological innovation. The School of Mechanical Engineering gives you all of the basic understanding and advanced specialist knowledge required in the field of mechanical engineering. We prepare you for a career as a mechanical engineer or a researcher who is aware of and able to act on the social missions and responsibilities of the field in the wide sphere of industry, while seeking harmony between the environment and human society.
We expect to admit the following students:
- Students with an interest in mechanical engineering (manufacturing), and a strong desire to contribute to human betterment
- Students who are interested in environmental issues, have a global perspective and high motivation to improve their foreign language skills
- Students who are imaginative, creative, and keen to solve problems on their own
Our Principles and Goals
We produce mechanical engineers who can create new technologies while maintaining a balance between nature and human society.
The field of mechanical engineering should take on full responsibility for the fundamental technologies required in the industry as a whole, which has become more advanced, complicated, intelligent and multidisciplinary. Meanwhile, engineering technologies should take into account materials, energy consumption and harmonization with human society to realize sustainability. In order to meet these needs, we start by providing fundamental education in a wide range of mechanical fields from state-of-the-art nano-technology, biotechnology and eco-technology to robotics, mechatronics, aerospace engineering, human-support technologies and environmental technologies. Subsequently, students learn about professional technologies in one of the following four courses: Advanced Mechanical Engineering, Intelligent Mechanical Engineering, Human and Mechanical Systems Engineering, Energy and Environment Engineering.
Course in Mechanical Engineering
Course in Mechanical Engineering is designed to give students the skills to produce innovative machines beyond conventional concepts in the fields of nano-level processing by means of laser, light andmaterialproperties;developmentof 3D printing; and design of production systems that include micro-machines and robots as well as environment-friendly production systems. Studentslearnthefundamentals ofmechanicalengineering, and also acquiretechnologicalknowledgeandskills related to the fields of creationof new machines such as next-generation processing methods and functional materials.
Course in Mechanical Sciences
In Course in Mechanical Sciences, we train our students to become engineers who specialize in computing skills for making machines more intelligent and functional, advanced measurement using laser and light, and artificial-intelligence applied technology. In the future, our students are expected to take on the challenge of exploring new engineering fields and generate innovative ideas. Students first study mathematics and natural sciences including physics, and then learn about the key fields of mechanical engineering such as design, materials and processing, measurement and control, and thermal fruids. Subsequently, they study a wide range of fields to understand robotics and mechatronics.
Course in Energy and Mechanical Systems Engineering
Course in Energy and Mechanical Systems Engineering produces engineers who will work to realize safe, environment-friendly energy systems such as utilization of new energy, development of highly efficient, clean engines and new energy-saving air-conditioning technologies. We hope our students will contribute to the construction and development of a sustainable society. For that purpose, students learn the basics of mechanical engineering systematically, and study energy-related machines and environmental engineering in order to acquire the professional skills needed to respond to technical advancement and the necessity for harmonization with nature.
